Primary maths in Wales

At Key Stage 1 (5-7 year olds), the programme of study is divided into three sections. These are:

  • Using and applying mathematics
  • Number
  • Shape, space and measures.

At Key Stage 2 (7-11 year olds), the programme of study is divided into four sections. These are:

  • Using and Applying Mathematics
  • Number
  • Shape, Space and Measures
  • Handling Data.

Within these sections, mathematical ideas are developed progressively across the Key Stages.
