Secondary maths in Scotland
Guidelines for teaching maths in the first two years of
secondary education (S1 and S2, ages 12-14) are contained in the
National 5-14 Guidelines. For what concerns S3 and S4 (ages
14 to 16), Scottish students study for National Qualifications but
there is no syllabus or guidance available.
The new Curriculum for Excellence, however, encompasses the
teaching of all subjects for 3 to 18 years old. Schools are
currently preparing for the implementation of this for the school
year 2010/2011. A link to overarching experiences for
