Building a lasting partnership
Many partnerships based on the commitment and enthusiasm of both
the volunteers and the school are extremely successful and
rewarding. However, some partnerships evolve and develop further in
a way that suits the ethos of both the school and the company. The
volunteer coordinator and the school coordinator will be key in
facilitating this development.
For partnerships with primary schools, this may include
organising a trip to the company offices for students, or
organising a seasonal party, including games. For secondary
schools, this might include an offer of a work-related learning
session for some students. Work-related learning enables students
to learn through the experience of work, to learn about work and to
learn skills in preparation for employment. The school might invite
the volunteers to attend event such as school concerts or
assemblies. Students might send the company thank you letters.
Don't forget that these will need answering! If you do decide to
take the scheme further, make sure it's fun and it will always be
rewarding.
