"I've found recently that card games work well . I think the
main advantage is the pace. It seems easier to keep the kids
focused on a fast moving game rather than one where a child rolls a
die, and then has to retrieve it from under the table, and then has
to argue that it was a six although noone else saw it and that, of
course, the roll should be allowed to count despite all
precedents to the contrary. For example, Black Jack
(21) contains plenty of maths and was very popular. I like to
think that it was the quick mental maths they found
